Join a Community Council
The SOS Community Council Initiative is a unique opportunity that offers individuals the chance to get involved and further the mission of Share Our Spare within their own specific Chicagoland community. Through organizing neighborhood events and shared volunteer opportunities, members of the council engage with their neighbors while giving back in a meaningful way.
Key Responsibilities
Share Our Spare strives to maintain active and engaged Community Council Chapters in at least 5 communities in and around Chicago. The primary responsibility of each Chapter is to strengthen and grow Share Our Spare’s community of stakeholders through locally led engagement with our mission.
Chapters cultivate relationships with their local businesses, schools, parks, places of worship, etc. to serve as collection sites and possible contributors for auction items, etc. Local events may include Stuff the Trucks, remote kitting, warehouse volunteer opportunities, and small fundraising events.

Each Chapter is made up of local Chapter Members, under the direction of 1-2 Chapter Captains. The Community Council is directed by a Leadership Team made up of the Chapter Captains, working under the direction of a Community Council Chairperson.
