Individuals + Groups
At Share Our Spare we believe that ALL children are our children, which guides everything we do as we seek to create new models and ways of thinking to make the world a better place. There are a variety of ways to support our mission and help children in need across Chicago:
Open Volunteer Days – Individuals and families with children ages 6 and above are invited to the Sharehouse to sort clothing, inventory donations and assemble newborn and personal care kits. Markers, crayons, and notepaper are provided for children to write a special note to the child or family receiving the SOS kit. Volunteers are asked to bring an item to donate. See upcoming open volunteer sessions on our calendar.
Sip N Sorts – Sip N Sort events offer an opportunity to bring your community together for a fun night out while giving back. Bring a bottle of wine and a group to the Sharehouse to sort, organize and assemble kits for Chicago area families in need. Each member is asked to bring an item to donate.
Kitting Events – We realize it isn’t always convenient to get to the Sharehouse, so we can come to you! Email us to schedule an on-site kitting event where you can collect supplies and assemble newborn or personal hygiene kits in a location that is convenient for your group.
Group Events – We are always in need of extra hands at the Sharehouse! Volunteering as a group is a great way to give back and serves as an excellent team-building exercise. Email us to schedule a private event where your work, faith, neighborhood or school community can help with donations at our Sharehouse.
Collection Drives – Share Our Spare supporters can organize a community drive at their local school, place of work, faith community, or other central location and collect donations for Share Our Spare. Community drives can be specific (a diaper drive) or a broad call to action for items in need.
Stuff the Truck – SOS Ambassadors can organize a drive in their community where friends, family, and local organizations can bring donations to a moving truck parked in a safe and accessible location. Click here to learn more.
