At Share Our Spare we believe in a community-based approach to breaking the cycle of generational poverty in Chicago and ensuring all of Chicago’s kids have access to the essentials. Our operating model relies heavily on the collection of items from individuals and corporations with extras to spare, and the volunteers and social service agencies that help us get these items to the families who need them most.
Our donations include any item critical to the early years including diapers, wipes and personal care items along with gently used clothing, baby gear, books and toys.
Our Corporate Partners are critical to this community-based approach and can support to Share Our Spare in a variety of ways:
In Kind Donations – Share our Spare works with corporations throughout the greater Chicago area to accept in-kind donations, supplies, or excess inventory. These donations go a long way to meeting the needs of local families. Find a list of items we collect here and contact our Executive Director to learn more.
Collection Drives – Many of our corporate sponsors host company-wide collection drives benefiting Share Our Spare, making it easy for employees to give back to their community. Collection drives can be targeted (diapers and wipes) or general. A full list of items we accept for donation can be found here.
Kitting Events – We realize it isn’t always convenient to get to the Sharehouse, so we can come to you! Email us to schedule an on-site kitting event where you can collect supplies and assemble newborn or personal hygiene kits in a location that is convenient for your group.
Group Volunteer Events – We are always in need of extra hands at the Sharehouse! Volunteering as a group is a great way to give back and serves as an excellent team-building exercise. Email us to schedule a private event where your team can sort, inventory, and assemble clothing bundles at our Sharehouse.
Charitable Giving – There are a variety of ways to support Share Our Spare. Make a one time contribution, donate in-kind supplies, sponsor our annual gala, support our programming through company grants, or offer a company match for employee donations. All are critical to supporting our work in Chicago. If you are interested in learning more, please contact our Executive Director.
